And for the Range Rover Evoque, too.
It’s always a good day whenever the movers and shakers at safety watchdogs ANCAP have something to shout about. This week it’s over some exceptionally-safe family cars that are just arriving on the local market. Firm favourites like the Mazda 3 and Toyota RAV4, as well as premium offerings like the Lexus UX, Range Rover Evoque, and Volkswagen Touareg have all fared excellently in the latest round of ANCAP tests, with all participating models scoring a healthy 5-star safety rating.
“It is encouraging to see safety continuing to be prioritised across the market.” – James Goodwin, Chief Executive Officer, Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP)
Of the 5 cars tested, Goodwin made special mention of the 98% adult occupant protection in the Mazda 3, as well as the range-wide pedestrian- and cyclist-detecting AEB in the Toyota RAV4.
The Lexus UX was also praised for its standard-fit range of ADAS systems like AEB, LKA, and BLIS, while the Range Rover Evoque got equally-glowing remarks for its advanced AEB system and intelligent accident avoidance intervention. The Volkswagen Touareg on the other hand received mention for its levels of passive safety, with ‘Good’ and ‘Marginal’ protection in side impact, frontal impact, and oblique pole impacts.
