BMW Australia will be introducing a new addition to the local range of the all-new 5-Series starting this September. The incoming 520i will mark the sixth member of the G30 5er to arrive Down Under, coming as standard with the Luxury Line trim and a starting price of $92,200.

For a limited time, though, BMW will be offering a fair number of well-specified ‘Launch Edition’ units for an enticing driveaway price of $99,000. Specifically, adds the Exclusive Pack should the Luxury Line trim be kept, which includes 19-inch alloys, Nappa leather upholstery, automatic tailgate, Dynamic Damper Control, heated Comfort Seats for driver and front passenger, High-Beam Assist, and BMW Individual Anthracite Roofliner.

However, Launch Edition buyers can also opt to have the M Sport Package instead of their 520i with Luxury Line. In this case, 19-inch M-light alloy wheels get fitted, along with the M Aerodynamics Package, trapezoidal tailpipe finishers, M Sport Suspension, and an M leather steering wheel.

The ‘standard’ non Launch Edition 520i is impressively well specified too, mirroring the earlier introduced 520d. Each car comes with highlights such as Dakota leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, wireless smartphone charging, 12-speaker audio system, and Navigation System Professional with a 10.25-inch Touch Control Display for the iDrive6 infotainment system. This pairs well with the included ConnectedDrive Freedom suite which adds real-time traffic information, intelligent emergency call, and their Concierge Service.

In terms of safety, each 520i comes Driving Assistant Plus, which includes Active Cruise Control, front cross traffic warning, and Lane Keep Assistant. Parking Assistant Plus is also included, and this adds Active Park Distance Control, Surround View, and Panorama View.

Powering the 520i is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder from BMW’s TwinPower range. It produces 135kW and 290Nm that’s sent to the rear wheels via an ZF 8-speed automatic transmission with gearshift paddles. Sprinting to 100km/h takes 7.8-seconds while average fuel consumption is pegged at 6.2-litres/100km over a combined cycle.

On the announcement that the 520i will be joining the local lineup, BMW Group Australia CEO Marc Werner, said: “We have been strongly encouraged by the new BMW 5 Series’ performance since its arrival in February this year. The 520i joins the range as a highly-equipped entry point, sharing specification with the popular BMW 520d. Now with three petrol engines, two diesels and the impressive 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid, the BMW 5 Series appeals to a wider audience than ever.”
